The new exhibition spaces of the castle, envisioned by the Hungarian National Castle Programme Nonprofit Ltd., welcome visitors with a modern, interactive exhibition enriched by immersive visual elements and a fresh graphic design inspired by the colours of Lake Balaton.

One of the oldest parts of the castle is the Palace building, where visitors can step into a vaulted projection hall and feel as though they are looking back into the past through a giant window of time. Through animated films created using 3D technology, guests can discover important turning points in the history of the castle and gain insight into some of the most significant events of the Hungarian border fortress era. The architectural development of the continuously expanding castle over five centuries comes to life through unique installations and spectacular reconstruction images displayed throughout the hall.
Inside the reconstructed Benedictine Tower, a detailed timeline presents the succession of the castle’s owners throughout history.
Visitors may also explore the coats of arms and family trees of distinguished noble families, while a spectacular interactive model demonstrates how the structure and mass of the castle evolved over the centuries.
The most important period in the history of the Szigliget Castle began after Hungary was divided into three parts, when the strategic significance of the Balaton Uplands border fortress system greatly increased. This important defensive line is brought to life through a chain of illuminated castle models towering above Lake Balaton, a floor graphic illustrating the former vast extent of the lake, and a highly detailed model of a traditional Balaton military boat. Visitors can also gain unique insight into how naval battles once took place on the waters of Lake Balaton.
Interactive installations present the composition of the fortress garrison and the characteristic military tactics of the era, including the so-called ambush strategy (“lesvetés”). Visitors may even hold replicas of the offensive and defensive weapons once used by the border fortress soldiers.
The atmosphere of the late medieval and early modern periods is further enhanced by lifelike dioramas depicting scenes from everyday castle life.
