The construction of the Szigliget castle was begun by the Benedictine monks, so it is likely that they may have created a chapel within the fortress as well. However, archaeological excavations carried out in the castle have not yet uncovered any remains indicating the presence of a chapel. Despite this, in 2010 one of the rooms of the castle was converted into a chapel, which was consecrated by Dr. Asztrik Várszegi, Archabbot of Pannonhalma. Saint Martin was chosen as the patron saint, referring to the Pannonhalma hill that is home to the Benedictine Archabbey. The chapel may serve as a venue for baptisms and weddings.
